Students at Atlanta’s Lithia Springs High School were in for quite the surprise when Lil Nas X stopped by the school.

The artist paid a surprise visit to his old high school as part of an interview with Gayle King for CBS This Morning.

In a teaser for the interview, Lil Nas X poses for pictures with students and takes a trip to the principal’s office.

“It feels good to be able to walk through the halls and not get in trouble for it,” the rapper-singer says in the clip.

Lil Nas X’s rapid rise to fame has been exciting to watch. Over the summer, his hit single “Old Town Road” broke the Billboard record for weeks spent at No. 1, spending 17 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.

Back in July, he also opened up about his sexuality in the song “C7osure,” telling King in the upcoming interview that it was a difficult decision to make and that he would often “pray it was a phase.”

The interview comes after the rapper’s recent announcement that he plans to take time off from music.

it’s been a wild last 7 months and im ready to take a little time off. sorry to everyone attending twitchcon or the sandbox music festival, i will not be there. i love u guys and will make it up to you some way. 😎❤️
