Nearly a year after its release, Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book changed the way we celebrate good music.

It became the first streaming-only album to win a Grammy, and Chance was named Best New Artist. The 24- year-old, who is in the middle of a 37-city tour, brings his winning streak to the ESSENCE Festival on July 2.

As much as fans adore Chance, that love is well reciprocated: The performer personally donated $1 million to Chicago public schools.

He boasts, “Music is all we got.” Thankfully, we also have Chance.

This feature originally appeared in the June 2017 Issue of ESSENCE Magazine.
