If you’ve ever wondered what Erykah Badu was like before she became the neo-soul singer we know today, this throwback of her at the age of 19 will give you a glimpse at her natural flawlessness.
The 45-year-old has been on a throwback spree recently, sharing a photo of herself at 23 and another from 2001.
It seems Badu has always had a very chill, down to earth vibe and a free spirit, which she has passed down to daughter Puma. In a video, Badu’s 12-year-old daughter spins upside down surrounded by paints and canvases.
“Birds born in cages think flying is an illness,” Badu captioned the photo, using a quote from French-Chilean film director and renaissance man Alejandro Jodorowsky.
Badu is raising one very cool and carefree daughter.
