Before Beyonce became one of the most influential artists of her era, she was the lead vocalist of a four-person girl group called Destiny’s Child. And it was 20 years ago that they debuted their first album.

The self-titled album, released Feb. 17, 1998, had the original members Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LaToya Luckett. It was a lineup that would erratically evolve until Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle Williams made up the final iconic group.

“The first record was successful but not hugely successful,” Knowles told The Guardian in 2006, reflecting on the self-titled album. “It was a neo-soul record and we were 15 years old. It was way too mature for us.”

The iconic lead single, “No No No” turned 20-years-old last November and Roberson used the moment to share rare photos of the group in the studio.
