Acclaimed actor and producer Michael B. Jordan won over a slew of fans for his portrayal of Erik Killmonger in Marvel Studio’s blockbuster hit, Black Panther. But could Jordan leave the famous comic book house for its rival, DC? After rumors began to swirl that Warner Bros. and Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in its most recent films, will be parting ways, sources close to the studio suggested they could be eyeing Jordan to take over the role. Deadline reports: “The word has been out that Warner Bros. has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time, even considering casting Michael B. Jordan in the role down the road.” Cavill’s agent, Dany Garcia, shut down the rumor, telling fans “the cape is still in [Cavill’s] closet,” and a spokesperson from Warner Bros. also told Deadline the film house hasn’t made any decisions about future Superman films. “We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged,” the Warner Bros. rep said. “Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films” Still, that didn’t stop fans from salivating over the prospect of seeing Jordan–who played Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, in the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot–rocking Superman’s iconic cape.

Part of me wants this just for the outrage, although Michael B Jordan is obscenely talented. https://t.co/5lJwOCuXXy

Just read a Michael B. Jordan as Superman rumor.
Nice. @NicolaScottArt and I actually talked about him a lot when we created the Superman of Earth 2, Val-Zod.

my only take on casting Michael B Jordan as Superman is that the most sexual thing I can imagine Superman doing is holding hands whereas I want to do unspeakable things with Michael B Jordan

Of course, some comic books fans had to rain on the parade, insisting that Jordan can’t be Superman because he’s Black.

If Michael B Jordan really gets the role of Superman I will never watch another D.C. movie again. That's insane. People are so concerned with making things "racially equal" that they r ruining shit. Superman is not black. End of story. Imagine a white dude playing Blade? Like no.

Michael B Jordan is facing tons of racism, covert & overt racism, and other BS because of a dumb rumor regarding the DCEU. Y'all worship anything white/str8 but disrespect and devalue non-white talent.

While we aren’t sure if Jordan even wants to appear in yet another superhero flick, if it happens, we know he’s up to the task.
