While recent trailers have gotten fans hype for the upcoming season of Luke Cage, the newest trailer for the Netflix hit establishes an interesting dynamic.
Alfre Woodard's Mariah Dillard is the reigning queen of Harlem and she has a new protegée by her side, Tilda (Gabrielle Dennis), who some speculate to be Nightshade.
But in the world of Luke Cage, Harlem's throne is always under attack and new villain Bushmaster is after Dillard's crown. However, it seems the crime boss has an unlikely ally in Cage (Mike Colter), who sees her as the lesser of two evils when it comes to the bulletproof Bushmaster.
In the new trailer for Luke Cage, The Fugees' "Ready or Not" plays as all hell breaks loose in Harlem. Dillard narrowly escapes a fire as Cage comes to her rescue and, later, we see her call the superhero her "dark chocolate boy scout."
It's possible fans will find themselves rooting for Dillard, despite her penchant for nefarious activities, as Bushmaster vies for the position of Harlem's ultimate baddie. And, to be honest, with Woodard playing Dillard with such cool, sinister confidence, we probably won't mind cheering for her.
Luke Cage returns June 22 on Netflix.
