When we woke up and learned that SZA had dropped her long awaited album, Ctrl, we along with all of her fans rejoiced! After listening to the album from beginning to the end, here are a few things your should know about it.

1. This is SZA’s first album

Although the 26-year-old singer released two mixtapes, See.SZA.Run and S, herself, and one extended play, Z, with her label, Ctrl is technically SZA’s first studio album.

2. A few hip hop artists are featured on the album

You likely know that Travis Scott is featured on the debut single, “Love Galore” but SZA’s labelmate Kendrick Lamar is also featured on “Doves In The Wind” and Isaiah Rashad and James Fauntleroy make appearances as well.

3. SZA’s mother is also featured on the album

Throughout the album, SZA’s mother gives spoken interludes about control.

4. Love, intimacy and control are major themes on the album

SZA takes her listeners on an intimate ride on her debut album. While she addresses her boyfriend cheating on “Love Galore” and herself being unfaithful on “Supermodel,” SZA also discusses the desire for love and being in control.

5. Ctrl wasn’t the original title of the album

Initially, SZA planned to name her debut album A, as a follow-up to her previous two mixtapes S and Z. However she later confirmed the new album title, Ctrl, when she performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this year.
