‘Jeopardy’ Host Alex Trebek Nominates CNN Legal Analyst Laura Coates As His Possible Replacement

The longtime host of ABC’s Jeopardy already has plans for who he thinks should take over once he decides to retire after over 30 years in the role. Alex Trebek, 76, shared his thoughts in an interview with TMZ and said he was open to two options: Alex Faust, an announcer for the LA Kings hockey team, and one of our favorite CNN legal analysts, Laura Coates. “There is an attorney, Laura Coates,” he said. “She’s African-American and she appears on some of the cable news shows from time to time.” Coates responded with a tweet of her own: “Incredibly honored & humbled [that Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek] 1) knows who I am 2) thinks I’d be a great host of my fave game show ever that I grew up watching w/ my family & still watch w/ my own kids (who saw him say this & now think I’m a genius).” As well as being on CNN, Coates, who is a former federal prosecutor, is a lecturer at George Washington University and the SiriusXM host of “The Laura Coates Show.”. According to The Root, Trebek has a big decision to make in two years when his contract ends. He told TMZ that there’s a “50/50 [chance] and a little less” that he would retire. He has been the show’s host since 1984.
