Earlier this month Mocha Mousse was announced as Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year. To some that might’ve been another day of the week. But, to enthusiasts who hop onto any bandwagon, it was a surefire way to lean into the richly pigmented hue. The tone of brown which ethers into milk chocolate territory is a solid selection for the chillier months ahead that await us. When the tone was announced I immediately thought about how brown is a seasonless shade that amps up a look no matter the occasion.
Let’s back up a bit. The tone has already been embraced by designers recently. At quite a few presentations in New York and Paris in September, multiple shades of brown were spotted. Two that stick out include LaQuan Smith and Chloé’s shows. At the latter, a chic, knitted two-piece set went down the runway (check it out below). While at the former, Smith designed a variation of outfits in browns: a lace one-piece, a transparent trench coat, a sequinned bustier outfit, and a menswear set created with lace (I’ve shared it above).
If you’re drawing a blank on how to wear the newly announced shade–there is hope. It’s a fun tone that meshes seamlessly with wardrobe staples. Think about that teddy Max Mara coat that’s been trending for years–or perhaps you’re moreso aiming to take the plunge into the shade by way of boots. Either way, when you pick up a piece in Mocha Mousse you won’t have to do any heavy lifting. The color effortlessly pairs with just about anything, kelly green, tan, and mustard yellow are key examples.
