The best movies are those that spark fashion movements. For most, it’s an after effect that typically takes off only after said movie hits the masses in its entirety. But for Barbie, the Margot Robbie-led film based on the widely known fashion doll, which isn’t set to grace our screens until 2023, all it took was the release of a few promo photos, as well as some behind the scenes shots of the actors on set, courtesy of the paparazzi, Robbie as Barbie always doused in splashes of pink, for the Barbiecore trend to stick. Suddenly pink is everywhere this summer and we’re not mad at it.
Though the influence of this first live-action adaptation of the children’s toy and her pals is no doubt undeniable, one can’t help but to take note of the influence that is Valentino’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection as well. The 80-look collection consisted of 40 head-to-toe hot pink looks, many of which immediately hit the red carpet by way of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the days to come, with the first-look of the Barbie film not to come until over a month after the collection’s debut.
