Hot Picks is a column in which fashion insiders reveal their latest obsessions–sharing their recent purchases and must-have pieces.

Fashion influencer Jeneé Naylor is a trendsetter. If you take on look at her Instagram, you might be able to point out that she enjoys sharing looks that make her feel like the best version of herself. In an age where “fashion peacocking” and outlandish looks are the modus operandi of many online personalities, this is refreshing. Though she began attending fashion presentations in 2019, she is viewed as a face to know especially in the Black content creator realm: this is due to the well-tailored and flattering nature of her fashion choices. Whether she’s wearing her favorite brands of the moment Yves Saint Laurent or Massimo Dutti, Naylor has a way of bringing her audience along with her on her style journey. In an email, she shares that she’s always comfortable in her clothes which allows her to exude confidence.

Like many stylish folks, Naylor, a St. Louis, Missouri native became enamored with fashion when she was much younger, in middle school. Flipping through magazines led to her fascination with the clothing industry. As the years flew by she decided to attend Lindenwood University where she studied Fashion Merchandising. At this point in her life, she felt she was finally taking fashion seriously. Immediately after graduating, she began working at Nordstrom and later became a manager at a Target in Merrifield, Virginia. Whilst working at Target she took the leap to full-time content creation and has never looked back.

Naylor is drawn to fashion of the ‘80s and ‘90s, she feels this is why she looks to Saint Laurent constantly. “I grew up in that era and watched my mom wear all the stylish pieces and it really just made me want to be a grown-up as well,” she shares. She also expresses that the ‘80s was the power suit era–this is a design she loves, she is constantly seen wearing blazers that are reminiscent of this time period. “The power shoulders did all the talking to let the confident businesswoman shine,” Naylor notes.

Her current style era includes wearing pieces by Prada and Roberto Cavalli, two well-regarded brands. Even though her looks include items from all over the world, she makes a point to share that her hometown is also instrumental in why she dresses the way she does. “My hometown of St. Louis definitely influences my style,” she shares. “I love the juxtaposition in my clothing and I think that comes from my city and upbringing.” She says the way she injects comfortability into her wardrobe comes from St. Louis too.

In anticipation of the forthcoming gifting season, we tasked Naylor with breaking down what holiday shopping is like for her. “My approach to holiday shopping is always intentional and thoughtful,” Jeneé shares. Gift-giving is also one of her love languages so she enjoys picking up items for her loved ones. “I like to make sure I get people exactly what they want.” She also adds that at times this means paying attention to details and listening for cues.

“I do often select fashion items for friends and family but mainly because they come to me for opinions about fashion,” Naylor mentions. “I feel confident that I know what they would like and I have a good understanding of their style.”
