Her social media bio reads, “Just a scripted line–saying, game show–playing, TV show– talking, notebook-hawking supernerd.” Seems fitting, right?

While sci- heads know Yvette Nicole Brown as the host of Cosplay Melee, some tuned in to Community for her razor-sharp wit, and others were drawn to her dramatic side in The New Edition Story. Now she stars as an unlikely yet committed political parent on The Mayor.

“Dina Rose is a formidable, conscious, gossipy, strong-willed mama bear,” Brown says of her character, whose twentysomething son becomes the head of his city on a whim. “Even though he’s clueless about being mayor, his heart’s in the right place.”

Speaking of hearts, the Ohio native followed hers when she ventured to Hollywood nearly two decades ago. Today, with a steadily building résumé, she continues to live by one of her favorite hashtags— #BeEncouraged: “I’m still climbing the mountain.”
