In 1989, Ursula tried to sabotage the burgeoning love between The Little Mermaid herself, Ariel, and Prince Eric. Well, sorry Pat Carroll, but there’s a new Ursula under the sea — or, well, on the Isle.
Whoopi Goldberg will be lending her iconic voice to the sea witch, mother of aspiring villain Uma (played by China Anne McClain), in Descendants 2 — the sequel to Disney Channel’s 2015 Descendants, which takes a look at teens following in the footsteps of their notorious folks.
Director/choreographer Kenny Ortega revealed Goldberg’s role during an appearance earlier this week on The View, saying to her, “It was the most fun being in a recording session with you…. You’ve always been at the top of my wish list, I’ve always wanted to work with you as an actor. It was such a joy, thank you.”
Descendants 2 will premiere across multiple channels — ABC, Disney Channel, Freeform, Disney XD, Lifetime, and Lifetime Movies — at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.
