Wendy Williams is known for giving her take on hot topics, but don’t expect to hear her discussing stories involving the recent spree of high-profile police shootings and brutality on her show’s upcoming sixth season.
“I want [my show] to be a place where people can come, laugh, and forget their problems for an hour,” Williams tells ESSENCE.com. “My heart is broken as a Black woman, mother of a 14-year-old Black boy, and American citizen,” she added referring to the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
“Yes I have a lighthearted show, but behind the scenes I’m a grown woman,” she said.
Williams says she plans to do her part in other ways. Her newly-established charity, The Hunter Foundation (Hunter is her married name), will be working “very closely with the community.”
The Wendy Williams Show returns September 13.
