Vanessa Williams is making a serious triple threat comeback! The three-time Emmy nominee revealed plans for a new album (going back to her musical roots), returning to the Miss America pageant and launching a new clothing line.
Williams told ABC News that she hopes to have her album out by the first of 2017. In her early career, Williams was a chart-topping Grammy Award and Tony Award -nominated Broadway star. So she’s not new to the game.
“I’m going to be doing a new album about the Broadway music that influenced me while I was becoming a young woman and things that I performed over the years,” she said. “We’re working out the deal now!”
But other projects are coming first. Williams, who was recently cast as the lead in VH1’s upcoming Satan’s Sisters, is debuting a new clothing line called V. by Vanessa Williams. It will be sold on the Evine home shopping network starting March 19.
“This collection is a combination of me as a professional, me as a mother, and me as what I wear for comfort around the house,” she tells PeopleStyle. “It’s your urban look, it’s your suburban look, it’s your casual look, and it’s your glam look, all in one.”
The 18-piece collection debut features jumpsuits, blousy caftans, stretch skirts and rouched tops for $100 dollars or less.
But that’s not all for Miss Williams, 32 years after the scandal that forced her to relieve her crown, Williams returns to judge Miss America.
She made history in 1983 when she was crowned the first African-American to win Miss America, but was forced to resign after nude photos she had taken surfaced and were published.
“I’ve got a perfect platform to kind of be reintroduced to the organization that catapulted me into notoriety and stardom,” she said to ABC News. “They are inviting me back as an example that this is what can happen to you in your life and there might be some more surprises, so we’ll see.”
