Toccara Jones’ Curvy-Girl Takeover
Toccara’s Curvy-Girl Takeover
Plus-size model Toccara Jones has made a career out of loving her curves. And can you blame her? Her sassy style and “real woman” curves puts even skinny models to shame. And she’s not shy to declare that she wants to become the world’s first Black plus-size model. We’ve loved watching this Dayton, Ohio native do her thing ever since the 3rd cycle of “America’s Next Top Model.” Now that she’s ESSENCE Contributing Style editor, we take a look at her curvy-girl takeover, from ripping the runway to being the first Black plus-size model to grace the pages of Italian Vogue.
Plus-Size Diva
Soon after coming in at 7th place on “America’s Next Top Model” Toccara signed on with Wilhemina modeling agency and graced the covers of several magazines before signing up to be ESSENCE’s contributing style editor in 2010. “I prefer to think about being plus size in positive terms and frankly, how could it be otherwise?” Toccara told the Daily Mirror. “Plus means more, it means more things to love.” Hear, hear sister!
Hello Beautiful
Toccara lost 25 pounds after she joined the cast of “Celebrity Fit Club.” The plus-size beauty says she maintains her weight by making breakfast her biggest meal. “That way you have the whole day to work it off,” she told PEOPLE.
Curvy Girl
“I feel I’m blessed with so much beautiful curves that often I need to remind myself to be more self-aware and not to wear clothes which are too sexy or showy as I do have everything to be proud of: beautiful legs, a great bootie, a curvy breast, a beautiful waistline, nice arms, a good looking body, nicely shaped cheekbones and gorgeous hair,” said the Dayton, Ohio native.
Fit and Fabulous
Toccara recently released her own fitness DVD called “Toccara’s Fabulous Workout” for “real-size women.”
Curvy Icon
Toccara’s curvaceous body has made her one of the more successful plus-size models and landed her campaigns with Ashley Stewart, Rocawear and Evans clothing line in the UK.
Style File
Toccara was the first Black plus-size model to grace the pages of Italian Vogue in 2008.
Real Woman
On top of modeling Toccara has also co-hosted several TV shows, including BET’s “Take the Cake,” and recently walked the runway at New York Fashion Week.
To the Top
“I’m going to be the world’s first Black plus-size supermodel,” declared Toccara after ANTM. We hear you, girl.
