Taraji P. Henson does more than just play the part of the first lady of Empire, she also played a hand in selecting her character Cookie’s new flame.
Season 3 of the hit FOX drama kicked off Wednesday and everyone’s anticipating the arrival of Cookie’s new love interest, played by steamy actor Taye Diggs.
Taye landing a reoccurring role on the show didn’t happen coincidentally. Taraji says she requested the actor for the role.
“Well, you know, I did request him. I’ve never worked with Taye before. It was like, why not?” she revealed to E! at the Empire premiere in Chicago.

Taye will play the affluent politician, Angelo Dubois who will expose us to a new side of Cookie that we have yet to see.
Taye is living up to Taraji’s expectations on set. The actress shared that working with Taye has been a lot of fun. “He is just so incredibly funny. And it’s like a dry humor, it’s like that Seinfeld humor, like you have to be on your toes. And some mornings it’s too early, Taye!”
