The stars of Girls Trip grace ESSENCE’s July cover and Queen Latifah, who plays Sasha, says there’s some surprising similarities between Sasha and her Living Single character Khadijah.
Girls Trip focuses on a group of friends reuniting for a fun trip to ESSENCE Fest, where hijinks ensue, friendships are tested, and people get peed on.
Latifah, who shares the cover with co-stars Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Regina Hall tells ESSENCE that Sasha gives a slight peek into what Khadijah’s life might be like today.
“Sasha graduated with honors and wanted a career in journalism, but because she wasn’t willing to tell salacious stories just for clicks, she lost some traction and fell behind. She’s still got her morals, even though she’s struggling.”
Kind of sheds a whole new light on her character.
Girls Trip hits theaters July 21.
