The world lost a television pioneer and icon, yesterday when Dick Clark passed away at the age of 82 of a massive heart attack. President Obama released a statement honoring America’s oldest teenager, according to ABC News.

“With American Bandstand, he introduced decades worth of viewers to the music of our time,” said Obama. “But more important than his groundbreaking achievements was the way he made us feel — as young and vibrant and optimistic as he was.”

President Obama concluded his statement by saying his thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Like President Obama, many of Hollywood’s elite are mourning the loss of Clark. Esteemed colleague and longtime friend of over 50 years, Barry Gordy says he’s “sadden and devastated” over Clark’s death. “Dick was always there for me and Motown, even before there was a Motown,” Gordy said. “He was an entrepreneur, a visionary and a major force in changing pop culture and ultimately influencing integration.”

How will you remember Dick Clark?
