Brooklyn-bred hip hop soul singer Mela Machinko has sung backup for the likes of Pharaoh Monche, Jean Grae and Talib Kweli. Now ready to step out as a solo artist, she recently released an EP called 9am Blues inspired by a time in her life when she thought a 9-5 would be the answer to the unpredictable life of an artist.

Thankfully, she got back to her senses. And the recording booth.

Listen in as Machinko sings her single, “Employment,” and let us know what you think of this exciting new talent.
