ESSENCE.com’s “New and Next” column spotlights the brightest new talents we think you should know. This week we meet eclectic singer Lorine Chia.
The Cameroon born beauty moved to the U.S. when she was 6 and has been a music lover ever since. After realizing that college wasn’t for her, Chia released her first album Thanksgiving 2012 to great reviews. She’s been featured on Complex.com and even had her music sought out for a Mercedes Benz ad.
The singer says that she doesn’t really consider her music to be of one specific genre. “People have been trying to put me in a genre for a while now but I don’t know I think I just make sounds…” She describes her new work as “everything in one.”
