New & Next: Meet Eclectic Soul Singer Tangina Stone
Nunnie’s “New and Next” column spotlights the brightest new talents we think you should know. This week we meet soulful singer Tagina Stone, an Ohio native whose new album, The FALL, is available on iTunes now.

If you had to describe yourself to someone by using other artists, what would you say?
If I had to compare myself to anyone or note anyone as influences on my musical style, I would say Lauryn Hill, Stevie Nicks, and Sade. I admire, love and appreciate them all in different ways that have been incorporated in my style. I desire to spread love and light through music, the way that they did.

What story are you telling with your music?
I am telling stories about the things that have happened in my life. I am also telling stories about things that have happened in the lives of others that have affected my heart, my decisions, or my way of thinking. When something moves me, it is my duty as an artist to express it in the best way that I can.

Why should we get to know you and your music?
Because I make honest music that you can relate too. I don’t make music for myself. I make it for those who need to hear it.

Who would you say are your greatest influences?
Lauryn Hill, Stevie Nicks and Sade.

What do you want a listener to walk away with?
I hope that each time someone plays my music, they walk away feeling like they have made a friend or have at least encountered someone who understands their feelings and experiences well enough to make music that might help them through it.

Who or what would be on your all-time music playlist?
Fleetwood Mac- “Dreams,” Lauryn Hill – “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” Sade -Every Album, Erykah Badu- Every Album, Journey- Every Album, Jill Scott- Every album, The Temptations- Every album. While I am at it, I should just throw in everything Motown before 1990!

Finish the sentence: My music is…
A little bit of rock and a little bit of soul. It is always made with love and honesty.
