Ne-Yo’s musical protégée RaVaughn stopped by the ESSENCE offices to introduce herself and give an exclusive performance of her latest song, “So Sick of Crying.”
The Los Angeles native, who is signed to Ne-Yo’s Compound label, was a demo singer before she landed her record deal. Now, she’s working on her album and says she wants her music to uplift women.
“I want to remind women that we don’t need a man to survive and to live and to love ourselves,” she said. “Of course, they are great there, but until we can love ourselves we can’t love somebody else.”
RaVaughn said she teamed up with veteran music writers on this project to create a classic record. “When you have relatable music it makes people more apt to listen to you, and they feel connected to you because they feel like you are going through the same thing that they are going through,” she said.
