There’s nothing quite like seeing a queen lift up another queen.

The 2020 Black Women In Hollywood red carpet was nothing but a giant love fest between the culture’s biggest stars (we love to see it!) Out of all the kind words and inspiring moments, it was this exchange between honorees Niecy Nash and Lashana Lynch that truly made us pause.

The fellow actresses happened to run into each other on the red carpet, and Lynch immediately sang Nash’s praises. “You’re incredible, honestly,” Lynch tells Nash during a joint interview with Terrence J. “I’ve watched you for many years. You are impeccable at what you do. Your transition from comedy into drama has been so swift and beautiful, and you’ve been a brilliant example to young people.”

She continues: “The whole honoring thing is fantastic. It doesn’t feel like I’m being honored. It feels like I’m here to celebrate your greatness. So thank you. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”

When asked for wise words she could lend the James Bond actress, Nash gave some powerful advice. “When it comes to who we are as women, we will live a very blessed life if we learn how to choose ourselves every single day. Sometimes we aren’t born with the gift of someone telling us that as a child. But when you get it as a woman, your whole world changes. You can be standing flat-footed in the middle of a blessing and still not know it. But that is how you keep your joy – choose yourself every day.”

Let the church say amen!
