If there’s one thing Master P can’t stand it’s excuses. Growing up a poor kid in the projects of New Orleans, Percy Miller overcame various obstacles to escape the ghetto. Through hard work and determination, P hustled his way to hip-hop stardom to become one of rap’s most successful moguls. Now P is helping others change their lives via a new half-hour VH1 reality show. In “No Excuses” P stresses his “work hard and never make excuses” philosophy to motivate others to achieve their goals.
“I wanted to do something that could reach a lot of people and help motivate them at the same time,” P told ESSENCE.com. “I didn’t want to make the typical reality show.” And typical it’s not. The first episode features the intervention of former Los Angeles gang banger Torrie Jackson. Though he’s no longer banging, Jackson won’t step up and be the role model for his son. His excuses are aplenty: no money, no car, no way of getting to job interviews. Enter Master P, who’s not trying to hear it and pushes Jackson to take responsibility for his life and his family. Will Jackson turn his life around? Watch and see. “No Excuses” airs tonight at 10:30 P.M. on VH1.
