Not everyone can claim to be a founding member of one of the world’s best-selling girl groups of all time. But, as an original member of Destiny’s Child, LeToya Luckett can. After reaching four US Top 10 hit singles, selling over 25 million records, and winning two Grammy Awards, Luckett went solo with her platinum debut album LeToya (2006). Then, by the age of 29, she made her on-screen debut in films like Killers (2010), before starring in TV series like Single Ladies, and now, the BET+ drama series Divorced Sistas.
However, the icon’s evolution isn’t just about entertainment. Her beauty and style has evolved as the +1 to her success. In Destiny’s Child, she was known for her thick, red-highlighted hair (see her at the 1999 MOBO Awards) which set her apart in her otherwise coordinated pop star outfits. By the time she went solo, we started to see her come into herself more: white beaters, skinny jeans, and oversized hoops. Her hair was often put up into a ponytail with big side bangs and trendy bumps like at a BET Awards gift lounge in 2007.
By the 2010s, she traded her beaters for blouses and shorter hairstyles began to stick. At the Essence Festival of Culture in 2014, for example, she attended with a ginger bob and pink floral top. Then, for the 2017 Golden Globe after party, she was officially recruited to a pixie cut. Since then, we’ve seen her pixie evolve from black to brown with platinum highlights, before committing to platinum in the years after.
In 2023, she attended the world premiere of Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé in a platinum pixie, red lip, and leather dress. However, in recent years, she’s toned it down to a warmer blonde while still playing up the drama in her sculptural dresses—cue the 2025 BET Awards!
Ahead, see how the singer’s beauty and style has evolved over the years in honor of her 45th birthday.
