Kim Burrell just couldn’t contain herself during the Essence Festival Gospel tribute celebrating her immense talent.

After calling Jonathan’s McReyond’s “Ah-May-Zing,” Burrell grabbed the mic and gave the packed house a once-in-a-lifetime treat.

During the course of the powerful moment, Burrell called up India Arie, Chrisette Michelle, Lalah Hathaway, and Jason Nelson to the stage to deliver a genre-blending performance that brought the crowd to their feet.

While it might seem strange to see gospel, jazz, and R&B artists on the same stage, Burrell said that’s exactly how music should be.

“I wanna show you this is how it’s supposed to be. We’re not separated. Ain’t no R&B, or Gospel,” Burrell told the crowd, “It’s just music.”
