After becoming the
first Black writer to win an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his
hit film Get Out, filmmaker Jordan Peele is already back to work on his next project–and it sounds like it’s going to be
good.
Starring Oscar winner
Lupita Nyong’o,
Black Panther breakout
Winston Duke, and
Handmaid’s Tale lead Elisabeth Moss,
Us is described as a “social thriller” that is due to hit theaters next year.
This week, several actors were added to the cast, including young actors Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Madison Curry, Cali Sheldon and Noelle Sheldon. They’ll join vets like
The Get Down’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and
Titans star Anna Diop.
Production is already underway on
Us, which will reportedly be shot entirely in California.
Peele’s last film,
Get Out grossed a whopping $255.5 million worldwide, according to
Time. Not only did that impressive figure make
Get Outthe best-earning film of 2017, it also scored Peele a first look deal with Universal.
Us is the first new feature film out the gate for Peele’s company, Monkeypaw Productions, and the
Key and Peele star will direct the film.
While details about the project’s plot have yet to be released, the film is slated to debut in theaters on March 15, 2019.
