The Fourth of July is an annual reminder of America defeating the Brits and gaining independence usually celebrated with fireworks, BBQs and parades.
However, not everyone received independence on the fourth. The Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t issued until January 1, 1863. And, June 19 marks the day slaves throughout the Confederacy were actually emancipated.
So, many Twitter users decided to celebrate another day that’s near and dear to them, Malia Obama’s birthday. The oldest daughter of Michelle and Barack Obama turned 19 on Tuesday, so fans turned the teen’s birthday into a national holiday.
