For the past 20 years we’ve watched Common grow and mature into the talented and sexy heartthrob he is today. Born and raised on the rough streets of Chicago, the Hell on Wheels star has come a long way as he continues to leave his on mark on Hollywood. And unlike many stars who achieve the level of success he has, Common has remained his true, humble self throughout his journey — contributing his gifts to philanthropy, activism and writing.
The laid-back lyricist may be known for his words, but he is a real romantic at heart. In the past, he’s taken the time to answer your burning dating questions and even reveal what went wrong with past romances with exes Erykah Badu and Serena Williams in his memoir One Day It’ll All Make Sense.
But things haven’t always been smooth sailing for the poet. Just last year, he became the center of a political controversy when FLOTUS Michelle Obama invited him to the White House Poetry event. In December, Common landed himself in hot water with Maya Angelou over his use of the N-word after they collaborated on a song.
At the age of 40, Common makes it all look too easy. And may we add, this man only gets finer with age.
Join us as we wish this renaissance brother a happy 40th birthday!
