Gabrielle Union will join VH1 in paying tribute to moms all over the world with Dear Mama: A Love Letter To Moms.
ESSENCE has learned that Union will join celebrities like Colin Kaepernick for the annual Mother’s Day special with Anthony Anderson and La La Anthony will returning to host.
Union has been open about her own experiences as a stepmom, defending caregivers and stepmothers across the world in a February InStyle interview after haters accused her of not being a “real mom.”
“I would move mountains for children I’ve never met before—that’s just the kind of person I am,” she told the publication. “So I think I speak for people who have birthed their children, adopted their children, had kids in every different kind of way you can have kids, family members who are taking care of other family members, older moms, younger moms … This movie is about the love of caregivers; the love of somebody who gives a shit about the safety and sanctity of a child.”
VH1’s annual Dear Mama event has featured celebs like Halle Berry, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Will Smith, Kelly Rowland, and more.
Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Moms will premiere on Monday, May 7 at 9 pm ET.
