Shonda Rhimes is brilliant, we know, but the number one reason we stay tuned in to Grey’s Anatomy is to get our fill of the show’s sexiest star, hunky actor Jesse Williams. Today we countdown our top reasons for total devotion.
Whenever Williams stops by the ESSENCE.com offices to pay us a visit he more than impresses our staff with his down-to-earth vibes and perfect manners.
Although Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes fully respect’s Jesse’s skills as an actor, she’s no fool. During his time thus far as a main cast members, she has written just enough shirtless scenes to keep the fans happy.
We’re loving those freckles! Absolutely adorable.
Williams says he enjoys the success he’s had so far in acting, but would never take a role he felt misrepresented his integrity and commitment as a serious actor. Smart man!

Williams was born in Chicago to a Swedish mother and African American father.
Fascinated with African studies, Williams opted to fill his first years at Temple University with all the electives offered in the subject — even those that didn’t apply to his matriculation credits.
One thing you might be surprised to learn about Williams is that he has a bunch of brains to go with all that beauty. Before acting he taught American Studies, African Studies and English at a Philadelphia public high school. Bonus points: He really loved his job!

Although he had to relocate to Los Angeles to work on Grey’s Anatomy Williams misses he old digs in Brooklyn, where he says he enjoyed interacting with so many wonderful kinds of people.
Because teaching was his first love, Jesse doesn’t get too consumed with the nonsense of Hollywood. He’s enjoying his success and avoiding unnecessary drama. When he does speak out publicly, it’s always about social issuees, injustice and change. Applaud that mine.
