By now President Obama and First Lady Michelle’s love of good food is not a national secret. The chefs who know them call the first couple bonafide food enthusiasts with a “sophisticated palate,” says the Chicago Tribune.
The kitchen at the Obama White House is filled with fresh and seasonal ingredients flown in from around the country or picked from the first lady’s organic garden. Though they love healthy food the Obama’s relish in regular indulgences like burgers and sweet potato fries, and president Obama is “a big pie guy,” said the first lady.
The family sits down for dinner at 6:30pm. One of their favorite meals is Nantucket sea scallops, creamed spinach (without cream) and huckleberry cobbler served with caramel ice cream, White House pastry chef Bill Yosses told the paper. The dessert “is one of the first family’s favorites,” added Yosses, whom President Obama nicknamed “the crust master.”
White House breakfasts like waffles and grits are an occasional treat, and Mrs. Obama maintains her diet with salads and healthy soups for lunch.
The first lady has said she decided to change the family’s diet after a pediatrician told her to modify her daughters’ Sasha and Malia’s diet.
