Since Chicago lost the bid to host the 2016 Olympics on Friday, despite Obama’s plea, the city will be laying off most of its 57 paid staffers by the end of this month, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. From the $76.9 million raised over the last three years in private donations, $13 million has already gone to World Sports Chicago, a new organization intended as the legacy for the quest for the Games. Their mission is to help Chicago-area youth become involved in Olympic and Paralymic sports. The remaining funds from Chicago 2016 are expected to go to the organization, which sponsors youth in competitions around the globe, provides college scholarships, and connects youth with successful Olympians for inspiration and guidance.—JG
