Yesterday, actress and bride-to-be Gabrielle Union appeared on The Queen Latifah Show and talked about everything from her love of basketball to her new show, Being Mary Jane.

And of course, Union talked about her becoming a stepmother to Dwyane Wade’s two boys and his nephew, to which Union said, “It’s been a journey.”

“It’s been a journey to boogers,” said Union with an endearing smile. “To boogers and flash cards and first heartbreaks and school dances and math homework. We got this amazing gift at a second chance. He just asked me to commit to trying, to put our family back together, to make our family whole. The trying to do the work, led to doing the work, led to us thriving because of the work, which led to this amazing proposal where my family literally asked me to marry them. When life gives you a new beginning, you take it and run with it.”

Wade popped the big question in late December with a dazzling 8.5 carat cushion cut diamond ring.

Days later their good news was dampened when reports began circulating that Wade fathered a child during the couple’s break. Since then, Wade has called his new son a “blessing.”
