Details on Lewis Assault Surface
UPDATE 10/15/09: Police report that the man arrested in the Leona Lewis assault yesterday suffers from mental health issues, according to TMZ.com.Officials at Scotland Yard claim they just charged 29-year-old Peter Kowalczyk with common assault and “sectioned” him under the mental health act — which means he’s being held so doctors can evaluate him.
As of now, Kowalczyk is due back in court October 26.—BB

British singer Leona Lewis was punched in the head by a man as she signed autographs and posed for snapshots in a central London bookstore, according to the Associated Press.
Lewis, 24, was at a book signing promoting the launch of her new autobiography “Dreams” when the 29-year-old man waited on line and then came up to hit her. She was immediately taken to see a doctor as a precaution. The assailant was led away and later arrested on suspicion of assault.
“Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack,” said the singe’s rep in a prepared statement. “The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings.”—WLW
