While fans keep wishing and wanting  want about the relationship status of Lil Wayne and his ex-wife Toya Wright, but the In My Own Words author makes one thing clear--they will always at least be each other's best friends.

In her trip to ESSENCE, the ex-wife of the rapper shared that she and the father of her daughter, Regina, 17, will always be close because they were first loves who have known each other for most of their lives.

“Wayne and I, we have a really good relationship,” she revealed. “It took us a minute to get to this point but I’m happy that we are here. When my brothers passed, he jumped on a jet and came immediately. When things are going wrong with him, I’m always there because before anything—before the fame, money, anything—I’m his friend and I’ve been in his life since we were like 13 years old. That’s what people don’t understand, it’s bigger than us being together. I look at him like family. I’ll always have his back, I’ll always go to bat [for him] because I’m like a real loyal person that’s just who I am and the way I was raised. That’s my daughter’s father and that’s my friend. That’s just the relationship we have."

While there will always be clamoring for the two to get back together, Toya says only time will reveal what's in store for them.

"People be like, ‘well, are you guys going to get back together, are y’all dating, are you secret lovers?’," she added. "You never know what the future holds and as of today, the almost 30-year-old Toya [says] not in the near future."
