Azealia Banks Ordered To Seek Mental Health Treatment

The 25-year-old struck a plea deal that would help her avoid jail time and get some much needed help.
Azealia Banks Ordered To Seek Mental Health Treatment

Azealia Banks, 25, reached a plea deal in connection with a 2015 incident where she cursed out and bit the breast of a female bouncer for not recognizing her and not allowing entrance into a club.

In a Manhattan court, the rapper pled guilty to third-degree assault in exchange for a deferred no-jail sentence. Instead she’ll have to attend anger management classes, avoid future collisions with the law, and more importantly, seek mental health treatment.

As reported by the New York Post, if she manages to meet those conditions, the assault conviction will be reduced to disorderly conduct — a violation, not a crime. Banks took the deal a few days after the emergence of several embarrassing revelations on the eve of trial— including a 2008 incident when she slashed her sister with a box cutter and an altercation with actor, Russell Crowe.

Questions about Banks’ mental health have been swirling for years after random social media outbursts and offensive statements were made by the “212” singer.

In July 2016 she admitted to bleaching her skin to “assimilate.”

“Nobody was upset when I was wearing 30-inch weaves and tearing out my edges and doing all that type of s**t like that,” Banks said. “You guys loved it, but what is the difference?”

Musically, her last single was put out in 2016 and she’s yet to announce any performances for festival season.
