The VH1 special, airing this Sunday, sends a special salute to the mothers of some of our favorite stars.
Long after cards have been exchanged, flowers and gifts have been given and tears have fallen, there is something we all need to tune into see on Sunday in honor of Mother’s Day.
VH1’s Dear Mama sends a special salute to the mothers of some of our favorite stars as a testament to their strength and courage for always encouraging their children to believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Hosted by Black-ish‘s Anthony Anderson, whose mother Doris Bowman pushed him to pursue a career that would make him happy, the actor and comedian helps pay tribute to these magnetic women in the first ever event special.
Here are 3 reasons you have got to watch:
1. Queen Latifah’s touching moment with her mother Rita Owens.
The multi-talented and multi-award winning actress and singer and her mother Rita have been through quite a lot. With the unexpected loss of her brother in 1992, they have always stood by each other holding one another up in both sickness and health. It’s on the strength of their bond that they cherish each experience together, never taking anything for granted.
“We have our struggles, Queen Latifah said. “It’s my mom! Anything you have come to know me as, any of that stuff you see on TV and movies and stuff does not exist without this woman right here.”
2. Alicia Keys‘ musical tribute to her mom, Terria Joseph
Motherhood is something Alicia and her mom have in common and it is something she is very very greatful for. In honor of her mom, the Grammy award winning singer, actress and activist salutes her mother through song and it’s nothing short of phenomenal.
3. The surprises!
We can’t spoil all the goods but there are moments you just can’t miss. From a special performance for Jada Pinkett Smith to a tear-jerking speech from one of the mother’s of the Black Lives Movement, you have to stay tuned from start to finish to feel the love on this phenomenal day.
