Beer Baths

You may never have heard of a beer spa, but they’re all the rage with our friends across the pond in places like Germany and the Czech Republic. Women flock to these spas where they soak in an herbal beer bath for up to 25 minutes to draw out toxins and replenish skin.

Cure Blemish-Prone Skine

Suffering with acne? I’ll be you never though beer could help with that. The froth (yeast) in beer helps break down bacteria on the skin and slows sebum (oil) production, which can lead to clearer. acne-free skin. As an added bonus, the low pH of beer also tightens pores (hello, younger looking skin!)

Hydrating Body Mask

If the cool winter weather has your skin looking dull, try this body mask to heal and replenish tired skin.

1/4 cup beer

1/4 honey

1 avocado

2 Tbs. vinegar.

Mix ingredients in bowl and apply liberally to skin. Sit for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.

Get the Beer Glow

The hops in beer helps dehydrated skin and brewer’s yeast aids in restoring the pH balance to your skin. If last night’s activities are showing up on your tired face, try mixing 1 tbs of plain yogurt with lime juice, 1 egg white, almond extract and a 1/4 cup of beer. Dampen a wash clot with the mixture and let it dry on your face. Rinse with cool water and see the difference in how much your skin glows.

Gentle Exfoliating Scrub

If you have sensitive skin, an exfoliating scrub may be hard to find. This natural exfoliating blend will slough off dead skin, tighten pores and leave your skin looking brighter.

Combine a 1/4 cup of cornmeal with a 3 tablespoons of beer and a 3-4 freshly mashed strawberries. Apply to face and let dry then rinse with warm water and moisturize.

Beer-cation

According to Dr. Roman Vokaty, beer baths have “curative effects on the complexion and hair, [aid in] relieving muscle tension, warm up joints and support the immune system” in other words, used in moderation, beer can improve your overall health and serve as a point of relaxation (refer to that part where she mentions “relieving muscle tension”). So, forget book that $200 spa appointment, dilute your beer with a tub full of warm bath water and take a beer-cation.

Mix and nourishing oil-based soup with a bottle of beer and a tub full of warm water and soak for half and hour.
