Beauty Secrets from 9 Top Models

They have access to the best beauty products in the world, but some of these top models prefer a good DIY treatment over the fancy stuff.

By Virginia Lowman · October 26, 2015October 27, 2020
01
Morning Cleanse

Supermodel Naomi Campbell fully believes that what you put in your body shows on the outside. The first thing she does in the morning is drink warm water with lime to cleanse her system of toxins and impurities. Simply boil water, steep a lime wedge and drink.

02
Kiss-Proof Lips

Model Anais Mali loves to top her signature pink lipstick with Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge iquid Lip Color in Iconic Red, for vibrant lipstick that will see you through dinner and the goodnight kiss.

$24, available at sephora.com

03
Legs That Glow

Supermodel and beauty aficionado Leomie Anderson swears by Soap and Glory products. She doubles up on moisture by mixing Soap & Glory the Righteous Body Butter with baby oil. It keeps her skin soft and her legs shiny, which is always a plus!

$15, avaialble at ulta.com

04
Hydrating Mask

Jet setting around the world for fashion week and editorial spreads takes a toll on you skin. Supermodel Senait Gidey relies on an avocado mask to hydrate, refresh and restore radiance to her skin.

To Make Your Own:

1 Avocado

1 Lime

Mash one ripe avocado in a bowl and squeeze the juice of half a lemon and mix. Apply the mask to your face and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow with your favorite moisturizer.

For even better skin, you can also add honey, or eggs to the mask to soothe and tighten skin.

05
Day and Night Skin Saver

Runway favorite Joan Smalls‘ trick to dewy skin is using Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair during the day! The perk?  It’s a cult-beauty favorite, super-hydrating and the perfect complement to your daily moisturizer.

$64 for 1.0 oz, available at esteelauder.com

06
Do-It-All Fix

If there is a single product that was the greatest gift to the beauty world, it would be coconut oil. Models and beauty editors alike swear by it for its multitude of uses—moisturizer, makeup remover, brush cleaner—you name it, coconut oil can do it!

07
Mama’s Recipe

Iman Hammam has become Fashion Week’s ‘It’ girl. She’s known for her gorgeous curls, but we also love her glowing skin. Her secret? Apparently the model makes a DIY saffron-honey mask passed down from Mama Hammam! We don’t have the exact recipe, but here’s a honey saffron mask that we like!

Saffron and Honey Brightening Mask

1 Tsp. Honey

1/2 Tsp. Saffron

Mix ingreditents in a bowl and apply to clean skin and wait 10 minutes before rising with cold water. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.

08
Baby Soft Skin

Sudanese beauty Alek Wek keeps her skin in tip-top shape with baby products! Her year-round skin saver? Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil Gel! Yep, the same one found in your local drugstore!

$7, available at drugstores

09
Makeup Prep

Angolan beauty and Victoria Secret model, Maria Borges‘s beauty secret is free and literally chiling in your freezer right now! She minimizes and closes her pores by rubbing an ice cube over her skin to prep for makeup application.
