“I’m about to cut all my hair off,” singer Justine Skye says in an Instagram reel. Crossing over to the land of pixie cuts is a rite of passage. Joining the likes of Teyana Taylor, Keke Palmer, and Taraji P. Henson, this week, Skye is the latest crop cut recruit. And, who better to initiate her than hairstylist Jawara Wauchope?
From a pixie cut on Anok Yai at the 2025 Met Gala to an eye-framing style on Paloma Elsesser in Doja Cat’s “Gorgeous” music video, Wauchope is the Edward Scissorhands of pixie cuts. But, going to an industry-leading hairdresser doesn’t completely settle the nerves of someone about to see all their hair on the floor. “I’m actually getting a bit nervous,” she says before she heads into the fold of New York traffic. “This better eat, because if not, I’m already having not a good time.”
Once in Wauchope’s chair, he oiled and massaged her scalp before treating and shampooing her hair. Then, it was time to cut. Referencing a wolf cut pixie, he got to work cutting a raw bang in the front and neck-molding layers in the back. “I feel sexy,” she says before the style was even done. “I don’t feel like I look weird with short hair.”
Growing out her honey blonde color (which matched her brows), Skye’s natural roots added even more dimension to the cut. As someone often seen in braids, updos, and long wigs, “it’s so different,” she says. But, “I’ve been wanting to have my natural hair in a style I can wear out into the world.” It’s the perfect, sexy, care-free style just ahead of spring. And, according to Justine Skye, “this haircut very much [says] ‘I don’t give a f—‘.”
