Earlier this week, Kim Kardashian’s plea for followers to “get over” Jeffree Star’s racist past landed her in hot water. In case you missed it, the trending topic started when Jeffree pointed out the reality star’s “struggle swatches” of her KKW Beauty line.

Soon after, viewers went on the defense, bringing up past video of him using racial slurs. Despite the well-documented evidence provided by her followers, Kardashian urged them to give Star the “benefit of the doubt and accept you know, that people change and move on.”

The media maven, who is married to a Black man and has two biracial children, quickly backtracked on her ignorant remarks, admitting that she wasn’t fully aware of Star’s past bad behavior.

“So I really wanted to apologize to you guys and my fans for defending a situation yesterday that I really didn’t know enough about. I just feel a bit naïve, and I do want to really apologize for me feeling like I had the right to say ‘get over it’ in a situation that involves racism,” she shared on Snapchat. As expected, commentators remain umimpressed and are wondering who the heck Star actually is.
Thankfully, Viceland’s Desus and Mero dedicated part of last night’s (Aug. 16) show to providing a full breakdown of the beauty blunder, including a look back at all of the times the blogger was caught using the N-word and other offensive language. Star has since responded to Kardashian’s statement by refusing to apologize and instead, deflect everyone’s attention to Donald Trump. Watch Desus and Mero’s full report in the above video.
