Today is National Wear Red Day, and we’re joining millions of women around the nation in raising awareness of women’s heart health.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for African American women in the United States. However, by finding healthy ways to cope with stress, we can reduce our risk.

Activities like exercise, eating well-balanced meals, and getting plenty of rest are a few great ways to surmount the stressors in our lives, but my favorite way to muddle through the madness is to indulge in a little self-care.

Drawing a warm bubble bath, throwing on a sheet mask, and gliding a jade roller across my skin, are a few of the ways I like to unwind at the end of the day. And to help you create a ritual for keeping stress away, I’ve rounded up five of my favorite self-care items you should try.
