Viola Davis took home the award for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor in a Supporting Role during Sunday night’s SAG Awards and, once again she delivered a speech that left viewers inspired.

Taking the stage to accept the award for her role as Rose Maxson in the film adapted from August Wilson’s play Fences, Davis spoke to the audience about Wilson and his ability to bring to life the story of black people, adding, “The fact that we breathed and live a life … just that, means that we have a story and it deserves to be told.”

The actress is also nominated for an Academy Award, making history as the first black woman to ever be nominated for three Oscars.

Following the announcement, Davis thanked director and co-star Denzel Washington as well as the Academy. “Thank you to the Academy for recognizing this extraordinary, important film and my work in it. Thank you Denzel for being at the helm.”
