Loretta Devine is one of Hollywood’s true veterans. She’s done Broadway, TV and Movies and kept us entertained all along the way. Devine got her start in the early ’80s and ever since then she’s been delivering laugh after laugh on both the big and small screen. In the beloved drama Devine played Marla Hendricks, a social studies teacher trying to do right by her students despite the odds.
Waiting to Exhale
Devine played sassy single mom, Gloria Matthews in the now iconic movie co-starring Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett and Lela Rochon.
Kingdom Come
“Kingdom Come” was a joy to watch and Ms. Devine delivered a great performance. With LL Cool J, Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica A. Fox and Jada Pinkett Smith, there wasn’t much down time.
Grey’s Anatomy
Loretta plays Dr. Webber’s wife, Adele on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ And even on this drama filled show, she manages to bring a bit of sass to the TV screen.
This Christmas
Comedy seems to be Devine’s strong suit. In 2007, she certainly brought the Whitfield family many laughs on their first family gathering in four years.
First Sunday
Devine’s played Sister Doris in 2008’s “First Sunday” and did a fantastic! It seems in every film, Loretta plays the cheerful upbeat woman who brings a smile to your face.
Death at a Funeral
The comedic thresh-hold broke when Loretta Devine joined the cast of “Death at a Funeral” starring Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence. Devine played the grieving widow who seemed to have a zinger for every moment.
