Shonda Rhimes is expected to receive yet another award for her prolific writing and showrunning genius. She will receive the International Emmy Founders Award, Variety reports.
The mind behind Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder will be awarded for her stellar accomplishment of filling an entire night of primetime on one of the major TV networks with multiple dramas, all of which have international success.
Bruce Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy, sang nothing but Shonda’s praises for mastering such a rare feat.
“Shonda Rhimes is in a league of her own—not only does she have an entire night of primetime on ABC in the United States, but her groundbreaking shows and iconic characters are avidly followed by 300 million viewers worldwide, in 67 langauges.”
Rhimes has been honored in the past with a Golden Globe, Peabody, AFI awards and earlier in the year received the Norman Lear Achievement in Television from the Producers Guild of America.
“I am continually amazed by the global reach of television and have been so fortunate to have fans of my shows around the world,” Rhimes said of the news regarding her new honor.
Rhimes will receive the honor on November 21 at the 44th annual International Emmy Awards in New York City.
