It comes as no surprise that Moonlight was a favorite among critics during Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards. For his stellar role in the film as Juan, Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor, taking the stage to accept his accolade, and thanking his wife and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. As wife Amatus Sami-Karim looked on tearfully, the actor said, “I’d like to start by thanking my wife just for being so generous and supporting me and working on every audition, every project I get to go out on, she works with me.” Subscribe to our daily newsletter for the latest in hair, beauty, style and celebrity news. Fans took to Twitter to celebrate Ali’s much deserved win and amazing year. “I want to thank Barry Jenkins for just giving me an opportunity to be in this film,” added Ali. “I think the only thing that saddens me in some way is that every actor is not going to have the opportunity to work with Barry Jenkins, and I wish that for all of you.”
