During the 10th anniversary of the Black Women in Hollywood Awards, Queen Sugar’s Kofi Siriboe has made his love for Black women known once again. “I love that black women are giving each other credit without relying on the man or the system,” he said on the red carpet. He told ESSENCE that his reasoning behind the deliberate affection was due to the treatment Black women often receive from society, saying we “aren’t often seen as vulnerable.”

But this wasn’t the first time the 22 year old, who plays Ralph Angel Bordelon on the OWN series, has shown his love for women of color. Earlier this month, he penned a powerful letter to thousands of social media followers that unapologetically honored Black women. His role in Queen Sugar isn’t the West African actor’s first time in the spotlight. He’s been in films like The Longshots, Prom, Whiplash and Straight Outta Compton.
