If you look back through the history of film, you're more likely to find a Black woman screaming at the screen of a horror film than actually starring in one. Finding a woman of color playing a role other than a mystic priestess or voodoo nympho was very rare until the '70s. But these days, many of our favorite Black actresses have graced the silver screen delivering spine-tingling, bone-chilling performances in some of the most terrifying films. Check out the actresses whose films have made us scream!

Last night, the second episode of VH1's "Football Wives" series aired, and many tuned in to see how the wives of the NFL would stack up to the overly dramatized "Basketball Wives" VH1 aired back in April. We all know how reality shows can be train wrecks, but if picking the lesser of two evils, "Football Wives" wins.
Not to say we won't see the typical petty flareups, forced makeups, sensationalized "major" events, and air of glamour in the mix, but the NFL wives of Dallas look better than their NBA counterparts for many reasons, and here's a quick nine:
Here's what you had to say:
Fatimah commented via Facebook: "Basketball Wives was enough. I'm over folks and their irrelevant drama over cheating men, gossip and groupies."Jacqueline wrote via Facebook: "I watched the first two episodes yesterday. What a hot mess! But I like good drama, so I'll keep watching."
Everyone knows about Jay Z's cool factor; he doesn't follow trends, he creates them -- and the campaign for the launch of his new book "Decoded" will be no exception. The long-awaited autobiography is a first-person memoir mixed with detailed discussions about his most famous and provocative lyrics. "Decoded" will hit shelves on November 16, but fans will soon see pages from the book displayed everywhere; from traditional billboards to the bottom of hotel swimming pools worldwide, using a new transmedia form of marketing. Jay-Z may have taken a new age approach in advertising his book, but there's nothing new about celebs turning into authors. Whether a memoir or self-help book, many of these stars have had life experiences that make them worth the read.

Even the biggest artist in music doesn't always get what he wants. talking about album sales. The most powerful couple in hip-hop and

Even if it wasn't Sunday, many of us sat in front of our TV sets and
went to church watching the hit show "Amen" back in the late 80s. We'd
sing and clap along to the show's opening theme song -- "Turn on the
light from heaven, Lord...shine on me, shine on me, shiiiiiiiine on me"
-- as the spry Sherman Hemsley would jump out of his caddy into a
double dutch session in front of the church. "Amen" was the first Black
comedy to figure out how to make religion funny without being
blasphemous, faith-based without being too preachy...

"I feel like music with no passion is like a guitar with no strings, a
piano with no keys, or a human being with no soul -- there's just no
point," says Marques Houston, who releases his fifth solo album, "Mattress Music," today. Houston, who has given us music for
the last 20 years (since his days in the group Immature) created an 11-track album that functions as the ultimate sexy playlist. Songs like "Kickin' and Screamin'" and "High Notes" are guaranteed to be the reason that some babies are
conceived this fall. Houston got real personal with ESSENCE.com and

state of R&B today...
VMA's are over and done with, and truth be told they were a tad underwhelming this year.
